What do the ancients have to do with today's science? A whole lot, according to author Joy Hakim, who takes readers on a storyteller's journey that begins on the Greek islands with Pythagoras, who, in a toga-clad world, insists on wearing pants. Hakim continues with tales of some big name players, like Galileo, Newton, and Einstein, along with stories of a bevy of scientific sleuths, all contributors to the adventure that has made this the greatest scientific era ever.

Joy Hakim is the author of The Story of Science, (its three volumes are Aristotle Leads the Way, Newton At the Center, and Einstein Adds A New Dimension)  all co-published by Smithsonian Books and NSTA. Her ten-volume A History of US is published by Oxford University Press. Freedom: A History of US is published by Social Studies School Services. Hakim has been a classroom teacher and a journalist. She was an associate editor and editorial writer for The Virginian-Pilot. A graduate of Smith College she has an M.Ed and an honorary doctorate from Goucher College. She has three children, five grandchildren, and a husband named Sam.
